    South Korea edges Saudi Arabia in AFC Asian Cup 2023 shootout

    South Korea’s Jo Hyeon-woo emerged as the hero in a nail-biting encounter at Education City Stadium on Tuesday, propelling his team to the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™. The thrilling match saw South Korea secure a 4-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in the penalty shoot-out after the teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 following extra time.

    The game took an intense turn after Abdullah Radif of Saudi Arabia broke the deadlock with a goal just seconds into the second half. However, South Korea’s Cho Gue-sung answered the call of desperation with a remarkable header, equalizing the score nine minutes into injury time. This dramatic turn of events forced the game into extra time, where Korean determination ultimately paid off.

    In another captivating Round of 16 showdown, Uzbekistan managed to outpace Thailand, clinching a 2-1 victory at Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday. The win not only secured Uzbekistan’s place in the next round but also set the stage for an exciting quarter-final encounter with defending champions Qatar at Al Bayt Stadium on Saturday.
